VAROD, (VANNI REHABILITATION ORGANIZATION FOR THE DIFFERENTLY ABLED)
VAROD, (VANNI REHABILITATION ORGANIZATION FOR THE DIFFERENTLY ABLED), a humanitarian, non-religious and charitable organization in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, continues servicing the nation for the last ten years and still it endures through community and institutional based rehabilitation programs for differently abled persons as well as physically and mentally challenged children and adults in Northern Province. It was founded in Sri Lanka in 2009 as a humanitarian organization, established by the Claretian Missionaries to support the displaced and affected victims, once immediately after the conflict came to an end after experiencing the two major armed conflicts , which emerged from nearly three decades. Our Empowerment activities are being implemented in 3 districts mentionable as Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu, where more than 5000 beneficiaries are being benefitted through CRC GROUPS which are also called as SELF HELP GROUPS (SHGs).
Today, we rank one among the mentionable NGOs for empowerment in Northern Sri Lanka, where our work is not possible without our PERSONAL DONORS, WELL WISHERS and mentionable NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS as well as TRUSTS. They join hands with VAROD to develop and bring a sustainable income to the lives of persons with disabled, widows and the families headed by women and persons with disabled.
Even though the civil war that dragged on for nearly three decades in Sri Lanka came to an end in 2009, still many of the grievances around systematic prejudice that led to the civil war, remain unaddressed. The people still experience a host of mental, post-traumatic and anxiety disorders and unexplainable psychosocial and psychological distresses which affect the whole society either directly or indirectly. It has been increasingly acknowledged that elements related to poverty, unemployment, and marginalization is crucial. Thus, Our service comprises both Institutional and Community based rehabilitations (IBR & CBR), where numerous persons got benefitted and still are being benefitted towards sustainable financial, educational, medical and spiritual growth as per to every single’s perception. The field staff spend time in strengthening the group activities in order to offer revolving funds for groups and the revolving funds are organised and monitored. The daily field work and monthly CRC meetings ensure the revolving nature of the livelihood assistance. The leader of the CRC group identifies the needs of PWDs and recommends the VAROD’s staff for support.
